Video search engine Truveo has best coverage in Europe

Truveo returns results from more top-rated sites than any other video search engine

LONDON, 2 March 2009 – Truveo's video search, http://uk.truveo.com, provides the most comprehensive results of any major online video search engine, according to an extensive study by the Truveo search engine team in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.

The study, conducted in January, compared the video search returns of Truveo, Blinkx, Google Video, Microsoft Live Video Search and Yahoo! Video Search from the top 100 Alexa-rated sites in Europe that have video content. The European site study concludes that overall Truveo is most powerful overall:

  • Truveo successfully found the desired video content from 80 of those sites
  • Google Video found this content on 27 of sites searched
  • Blinkx found the content on 10 of sites searched
  • Microsoft Live Video Search found the content on just 4
  • Yahoo! Video Search found none of the target video content on the 100 Alexa-rated sites

When targeting UK-specific sites, Truveo was also the most powerful video search engine.

A breakdown of the study's results reveals that Truveo covered the most video results from the top 20 Alexa-rated websites in the UK. Analysing each search engine's coverage score, Truveo found target video content from 17 of the video content sites, whilst Google Video found 5 and Blinkx 2. Yahoo! Video Search and Microsoft Live Video Search returned no results.

Truveo, http://uk.truveo.com, conducted this internal study, as no major testing organisation, publication or consulting firm currently conducts ongoing quality studies of video search engines. Truveo is making its methodology publicly available, to encourage independent testing and to guide consumers when choosing a video search engine.

"When consumers want to search for European videos about news, sports, TV, music, movies and more, Truveo should be their engine of choice. The results of this study clearly show that Truveo is the most comprehensive video search engine available," said Dana Dunne, CEO, AOL Europe. "With the speed of growth of online video, search engines can no longer rely on feed relationships with video content producers," said Pete Kocks, President of Truveo and Vice President of AOL. "Truveo's crawlers are the best in the business and that is what has allowed us to build an index of over 3001 million videos and keep up with the hundreds of thousands of new videos that appear each day."
